How much does a birth chart reading cost?

A live birth chart reading with a professional astrologer usually costs about $120 to $300 for a session of 50 to 90 minutes. A written birth chart report usually costs about $15 to $100, and a basic chart with your planet positions is free on many sites. The difference comes down to one thing: how much human time goes into your chart.

Most price comparisons online are quoted in US dollars. Our own report costs 20 crystals (about £1) on a free account; crystals are sold in dollars, or in pounds with VAT included in the UK.

What are the price ranges, at a glance?

Option Typical price What you get How long it takes
Free chart calculator $0 Your planet positions, houses and a chart wheel, with little or no interpretation A few seconds
Written report $15 to $100 A PDF or web report that interprets each placement in your chart Minutes
Live astrologer reading $120 to $300 A conversation with an astrologer about your chart and your questions 50 to 90 minutes, booked ahead

These ranges come from price comparisons published in 2026, such as this breakdown by an astrology app. Most of that research is published by companies that sell readings, ours included, so treat any single figure as a guide rather than a fixed rate.

Why does a live reading cost so much more?

A professional astrologer often spends time preparing your chart before the session, then talks you through it and answers your questions. You are paying for that time and for their experience, in the same way you would pay a coach or a consultant. Prices go up with the astrologer's reputation and with longer sessions or follow-up calls.

A written report has no live conversation, so it can cost far less. The quality depends on how carefully the chart is calculated and how much of the text is about your chart rather than general sign descriptions.

What should a good written report include?

Look for these five things before you pay:

  1. Your exact birth time and place. Without them, the Ascendant and the houses cannot be calculated. See do you need your exact birth time?
  2. The historical time zone of your birth city. Daylight saving rules have changed many times, and a one-hour error moves your Ascendant by about 15°.
  3. Every planet, not only your Sun sign. A real reading covers the Moon, the Ascendant, Mercury to Pluto, the houses and the aspects between planets.
  4. A clear price with no upsells. Some sites advertise a low price, then add charges at checkout for extra chapters.
  5. An honest note on how it is written. Ask whether an astrologer, fixed templates or an AI writes the text, and what it is based on.

How much does the Crystal Moonlight report cost?

Our natal chart report costs 20 crystals (about £1) on a free account, fewer on the Gold and Diamond plans. It is a PDF of over 30 pages with your chart wheel, Sun, Moon and rising sign profiles, every planet, house and major aspect, and seven chapters of interpretation. You see your Sun, Moon and Ascendant for free before you pay, and the report arrives by email within minutes.

The positions are calculated in code from astronomical models, and an AI model writes the chapters from those positions only. Our methodology page explains every step.

Is a free birth chart enough?

A free chart is enough if you want to know your placements and are happy to look up what each one means. A paid report is worth it if you want everything explained in one place and tied together. We compare the two in free vs paid birth chart.

You can try our free birth chart calculator first: it shows your Sun, Moon and Ascendant in about a second.
