Being born on the cusp means you were born within a day or two of the Sun moving into a new sign, which happens around the 19th to 23rd of each month. Your Sun is still in one sign only: the exact moment of the change shifts by up to a day from year to year, so your birth date, time and place decide which side you fall on. Many people born near the change notice traits of both signs.
When does the Sun change sign?
| Sign | Usual first day |
|---|---|
| Aries | March 21 |
| Taurus | April 20 |
| Gemini | May 21 |
| Cancer | June 21 |
| Leo | July 23 |
| Virgo | August 23 |
| Libra | September 23 |
| Scorpio | October 23 |
| Sagittarius | November 22 |
| Capricorn | December 22 |
| Aquarius | January 20 |
| Pisces | February 19 |
These are the usual dates. In any given year the change can come a day earlier or later, and the time of day matters too.
Can you be both signs?
No. At any moment the Sun is at one exact degree of one sign. But the last and first degrees of a sign can carry a touch of the sign next door, and other parts of your chart, such as your Moon or rising sign, may be in the next sign. That is often why people on the cusp feel they are a bit of both.
How do you find out which sign you are?
Enter your birth date, time and city in our free birth chart calculator. It works from the exact position of the Sun at your birth, using the historical time zone of your birth city, so there is no guesswork.
Does the report mention the cusp?
Yes. When your Sun, Moon or rising sign is within 2° of the next or previous sign, the natal chart report, for 20 crystals (about $1), says so on that profile page and notes which traits of the sign next door you may also see.
